DOE Lawrence Award Ceremony for Professor Brennecke

The E. O. Lawrence Award ceremony was held in Washington DC on April 28.  The Lawrence awards (http://www.er.doe.gov/lawrence/), honor one of the pioneers of nuclear research.  At the ceremony, Dr. Lawrence was characterized by Energy Secretary Steven Chu as "... the father of modern team science..."

Professor Brennecke, one of 6 awardees in different fields, was cited for "her seminal work in advancing fundamental understanding of supercritical fluids and ionic liquids and her scientific and technological leadership in discovering new environmentally-benign, green chemistries."

These awards are given only every 3-4 years with the last set given in 2006.  A complete list of the Award Laureates can be found here.

In her acceptance speech Professor Brennecke thanked her students "... the ones who really do the work ...", extolled society to continue to pursue sustainable energy technologies and lauded Notre Dame as "... no place I would rather be! ..."
